ANS is the Association of Neurophysiological Scientists of Great Britain. It currently has approximately 600 members world-wide, the great majority of whom are in Britain and Ireland. The Association lists among its aims and objectives, the furtherance of knowledge in Electrophysiological techniques and to this end it holds three scientific meetings per annum and publishes the Journal of Electrophysiological Technology three times a year. The Association represents technologists at Department of Health level and gives advice on occupational standards and career structure. It also gives individual advice to Clinical Physiologists as required although it does not act in any way as trade union. It is governed by a Council which meets regularly to discuss the business of the Association. ANS (formerly EPTA) is affiliated to the Organisation of Societies of Electrophysiological Technology (OSET) which is an international federation of such societies. OSET fosters international co-operation in setting occupational standards for technologists and also publishes a newsletter as well as holding an international Congress every four years.
Membership is open to suitably qualified technologists working in clinical Neurophysiology and related fields. Full membership costs 45 pounds (sterling) per annum and this includes the right to attend scientific meetings (for which there will be a fee), a monthly newsletter which includes job advertisements, three journals per annum and the right to attend meetings of the British Society for Clinical Neurophysiology (BSCN) as a guest. The BSCN is a sister organisation which caters for the medical personnel within the speciality.
